jabber-irc software package provides IRC transport for jabber, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install jabber-irc
jabber-irc is installed in your system.
Make ensure the jabber-irc package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep jabber-irc *
You will get with jabber-irc package name, version, architecture and description in a table
